Background Information:
NHS Lothian, which was responsible for running our surgery, recognised that the surgery facilities were inadequate for the delivery of an up-to-date medical practice. After a number of difficulties, a site in Wilkieston Road was identified and a new surgery with 4 consulting rooms is being built there and leased to NHS Lothian. Planning Permission was given in June 2015. Building work commenced early in 2017 and this facility was completed and has been in use since the 2018.
For many years the Ratho practice operated under a ‘2c’ contract, where the practice was directly managed by what is now the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership. It was agreed that there would be an opportunity to return the contract to the normal ‘17J’ arrangements when the new building was certain. The contract was advertised in early 2017. East Calder Medical Practice made a bid to establish Ratho as a second practice in their Partnership and assumed responsibility for the practice in October 2017. They have given assurance that Ratho will not be run on a ‘branch surgery’ basis, but as an entity of the Partnership in its own right.
Following the incorporation into East Calder and Ratho Medical Practice on 1 October 2017 the webpage for Ratho Medical Practice gives information for patients including a secure online form for ordering repeat prescriptions.
